Home decorating projects in the works

Yesterday I spent a good 6 hours or so working on sorting and organizing the bathroom and dining room. We have had an empty shelving unit above the bathroom that came with the place, and I decided to get boxes and move items that aren’t regularly used up above to declutter a few areas. I was able to pack up about 1/2 of the items that were on a bookshelf in the dining room, and I consolidated the items we actually use in the bathroom. I have 2 pieces of storage furniture showing up this week for the bathroom, so it was a timely project.

Currently I have a bookshelf holding everything, I’m planning to bring that upstairs to give a home for wayward electronics and other misc items upstairs. We’ve been here for 9 months now, and I’m starting to pick up steam about getting this place totally decorated.

Huge list of things I’m working on decorating house-wise complete with pictures:

I’ve been slowly working on the bathroom- I recently got a new shower curtain that matches the colors of the tiles. We have some fantastic Portal art up, which ended up matching color and theme-wise beautifully. The printing on the door was here when we got the place, and it’s one of my very favorite things here.

I recently also replaced the orange basket (which matched the really bright bathroom we had in our last place – pictures of that can be found here) with a pretty wicker one that holds more. Right now, I still have hot pink and lime green towels. Since towels are one of the biggest expenditures in the bathroom, I’ve saved them for last. I don’t really need matching towels just yet, but they’ve been on my list for a long time now. I got really cheap towels last time, and I would love to not deal with years of towel fuzz next time.

One of the most finished rooms is the living room (sidenote: I can see what a difference having properly set up my camera vs taking a quick picture with my iPhone makes in how the room looks- rug picture was iPhone and the second picture was with my actual camera)

I took this right after we set up our tv. We framed the tv in with the art when we did the setup.

This was our process of framing in- we used the inserts from the frames to set up placement, then taped out the size of the txv along with the height of the stand we planned to get for it. We spent a good 6 hours getting frames set up, measuring and hanging. Everything lines up beautifully, so it was definitely worth the time and effort.

We recently got the rug, and it made a huge difference in the room. We have spent a lot of time trying to come up with the perfect coffee table. The current one was a $20 IKEA quick fix while we decided what to actually go with. CB2 has a beautiful concrete table, but the weight made us hesitate. A friend suggested that he thought he could make us a steel cube to go there, and that’s the direction we are presently leaning.

The least finished room in our place is the future office/kid room/guest room. These pictures are where it is right now, which is no different from the first 2 weeks we moved in.

I really want to completely overhaul this room completely. I’ve been gathering up ideas on this Pinterest board. I’d really like to swap out the bunk beds for a nice trundle daybed. I also want to completely rethink how the wardrobes are set up back there. The other really important thing I still haven’t figured out for this room is how to effectively be able to screen it off when someone is staying there, but keep it open when I use it as an office.

Rooms not included here are the dining room and the bedroom, which I think deserve their own posts.
